I always liked to write when I was in high school but didn't do anything with my writing until years later. After reading works by writers such as Toni Morrison, Maya Angelou, Ernest Gaines, and Terry McMillan, whose stories I could relate to, I wanted to write the stories I had to tell just like they did.
