Fast & Furious Five ... my review

Released on April 29 2011, Fast & Furious Five also known as Fast Five is the fifth in the Fast and Furious franchise, starring Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludachris" Bridges, Matt Schulze, Sung Kang - amongst others.

Firstly, I read that the events in the film was carried out between Fast and the Furious: Tokyo drift and Fast and Furious. I really don't get that though, but yeah, thought you all might want to know. So far it's been doing well in the box office, but here's my personal review.

Three words. I loved it. Yeah, I really loved almost everything about it and I'd let you know why as we go along. For everyone's sake I won't do too much of the name calling. I guess their first name''s enough. So the film kicked off with former FBI agent, Brian and his girlfriend Mia staging an attack on a prison transport which held Dominic, Mia's brother. I liked this bit of the film.

Soon, I got to see Dwayne Johnson as Luke Hobbs. I liked his first scene with the sarcastic comment he issued to the police officer about the lady's smile. There's something unique and good about this film. At the starting the actor and villain were both popular actors, and this is very intriguing. Who're the writer's going to kill off. The popular wrestler and actor, Dwayne Johnson or the popular actor, Vin Diesel. Very interesting, Then, the shooting began as Luke and his men tracked down the two wanted men, Brian and Dominic. Right then, I noticed something about this film. They chose to act it in Rio, Brazil. Why? Was it because "The Expendables" was shot in Brazil as well, with the jumping of roof tops and all that. I kinda let that slide and continued to enjoy the film.

I liked when Dom and Brian form a team of experts to get do away with the dealer's money. As Tyrese, aka Roman in the film heard about the plan he opted out immediately, but hearing the amount of money to be made, he retraced his steps..LOL. There were some moments I'd have loved to see, like how they won the blue car. Maybe they'd cut it off :( Also, I was expecting Mia to react due to the baby in her. Although she did at first, but she seemed normal throughout the remaining scenes.

Then the best part of all, the ending. After forming an alliance with Luke, Dom and his team attach THE POLICE STATION, and took away the vault. That scene must have cost a lot. Too many damages were occurred, but I guess I've paid for them by watching the movie at the cinema...LOL. At that moment, I was seating at the edge of my chair, clenching my teeth in suspense. Was Dom really going to die? Gladly, he didn't and Luke ended up killing the dealer, after all his team mates had been killed. Sadly, Vince had to die, but hey, someone's gotta die considering what they were doing.

The con at the end of the movie was unexpected, and I loved it. Although, I had seen the duplicate vault earlier on, but my mind had drifted from it while focusing on the rest of the movie. The team split the money between them and departed to enjoy their lives. It was more of a fairy tale.

All in all, I enjoyed watching this movie. It deserves the hype it's given.

Rating: 4/5

Questions:

What inspired you to become a writer?
I don't think I ever even thought about it, I just started writing. I grew up with two parents who were avid readers an from the time I was little I thouht books were the most magical things in the world. Writing was just a normal progression from reading.

Why should people read your book?
I think it is a beautiful story about three people at a place in their lives where they are questioning all the sacrifices made to be good people. Gabe has devoted his life to being a good husband and father. Maggie has been a good wife, Peter has been a good priest. Now the circumstances in their lives are changing and they suddenly begin to wonder if their sacrifices have been worth it – and whether they want to live with them for the rest of their lives. It is something I think a lot of people can relate to.

Can you relate to any of the characters and why?
Of course. In some ways I can relate to all three of the main characters. I especially relate to Maggie. Creating her was difficult at times because, like her, I've made some unconventional choices in how to live my life and now, past fifty, I wonder if I would do the same things again.

Tell your readers something personal about you?
Personal? Goodness, that's leading. Well, I am something of a hermit. I live on an island along the coast of Massachusetts and almost never leave it. In my younger years I moved around a lot but now I love leading a quiet, simple life where I can devote most of my time to designing (I'm a graphic designer) and writing.

How can one contact you?

Insights about me

From today, or rather from this blog, I would pick a word from each of the English alphabets, which reveals to readers, writers, publishers - everyone more of Kelvin. Trust me, it's gonna be really interesting. You get to know Kelvin personally. Good, right?
Well, without wasting much of your time, let's get started. I'll start with the first letter of the English alphabet. I will pick the first word that comes to my mind.
A is for Amanda Hocking. Most of you who've seen my posts on Kindleboards, Goodreads etc. may have noticed that I mentioned her name a couple of times. The interesting thing though is that I am not really a fan of hers. However, I admire her success and online personality. Truth be told, she may be different in person. Still, I love the Amanda Hocking online. Some writers read her success story, and say, "Hey, I'm going to do what she did and become a best-seller," but as she stated, most writers will not become so famous and rich, others will probably be more famous than her. I do agree with her 100%. The truth is most writers CAN be like her, but WON'T be. Too bad that's the way life goes :(

If you look at most famous writers/authors, they use an extra ingredient to make them stand out of the crowd of writers. Ernest Hemmingway used "Polysyndeton" in his writing; those who may be hearing this word for the first time, the word means the use of conjuctions in close successions. For example, replacing commas with the word "and".
J.K. R0wling was really, and I mean really with a big R, was really good in using backstory on her Harry Potter series. She covered every single detail in each book, and ended it very well. Her imagination was really wild. Come on, Albus Dumbledore, Severus Snape. Give her a bit of credit for her work.
Then comes Amanda Hocking, she is a really fast writer. I mean, really fast. As stated on her blog, she writes over 14 hours of the day. This really helped her in selling her books, or so I believe. For chrissake, 8 books released in a year. She was pretty fast.
The thing is, if a writer uses these ingredients, he/she would hardly make it. For example, if one uses Polysyndeton, writers and readers alike would think that the writer doesn't know much about the English language. In a nutshell, what works for others may not work for you.

In conclusion, I hope to be known for my books just like Amanda Hocking. However, I'm a realistic person and I know the chances of that happening :)

I hope you enjoyed the read. So sorry for the long post. Please, leave comments on below on your opinion to the above paragraphs.

Much Love
Kelvin
